The Cleveland Guardians are two wins away from the World Series, but face the challenge of beating pitcher Nick Martinez, who has previously shut them out twice this season.
Cleveland Akron, OH, October 16, 2026 —
The Cleveland Guardians are two wins away from reaching the World Series, but pitcher Nick Martinez presents a challenge: he has shut them out twice this season, according to the trend summary.
The prior shutouts give the matchup a clear point of focus as the Guardians pursue the wins they need. The available information does not specify when the teams will meet, the opponent’s identity, or the scores and dates of Martinez’s earlier shutouts.
It also does not provide details about the Guardians’ recent results, Martinez’s team, or whether he is scheduled to start in an upcoming game. Without that information, the scope of his role in the next matchup cannot be established.
The central fact is the contrast between the Guardians’ proximity to the World Series and their past difficulty against Martinez. The trend summary offers no further information about the series format, the number of games already played, or what would follow if Cleveland secures the two wins.
