Twice-exceptional individuals are, by definition, both gifted and disabled, a combination that frequently leads to under-identification, because strong
verbal or reasoning skills can obscure a learning disability, attention disorder, or processing difference that a less able test-taker’s evaluation would have caught. Jacobson’s work with Mensa International’s Gifted Youth Committee has kept him close to that identification problem; testing agencies overseeing exams such as the LSAT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, and bar exam apply a consistently higher evidentiary bar to accommodation requests than most schools do, and Jacobson says that gap is where a well-documented, functionally linked evaluation matters most.
