All Pro Newton Deck Builders has expanded its residential deck design, construction and repair service area to include Natick, Massachusetts, and the company is accepting project consultations from homeowners there. The expansion extends coverage farther west along the Route 9 and Massachusetts Turnpike corridors from the firm’s established base in Newton.

Natick is a town of 37,006 residents in Middlesex County, according to the 2020 federal census, and it sits roughly 10 miles west of Boston in the region commonly identified as MetroWest. The town covers about 16 square miles and borders Wellesley, the community that separates it from Newton, placing the new coverage area adjacent to territory the company already works in.

Work available under the expanded area covers new deck construction, replacement of aging or structurally compromised decks, repairs to framing, decking boards, stairs and railings, and the installation of pressure-treated lumber, cedar and composite materials. The expansion does not involve a new physical location, and projects in Natick will be run out of the existing Newton operation. Scheduling for the remainder of the current season is being handled on a first-come basis, with permit review timelines in the town factored into each start date.

Deck projects in Natick require a building permit issued by the town’s building department, and construction is governed by the Massachusetts State Building Code, 780 CMR, which sets requirements for footing depth, ledger attachment, guard height, stair geometry and lateral load connections. Contractors performing residential work of this type in Massachusetts must hold Home Improvement Contractor registration, a program administered by the state Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. Permit filing and inspection scheduling are handled as part of each contracted project.

“Natick homeowners have often had to look beyond the town line for deck replacement work, and the expanded service area shortens that search,” said John Greene, owner of All Pro Newton Deck Builders. “Crews already work in the communities immediately to the east, so the added distance is short and the schedule stays predictable through the building season.”

Cost surveys published in 2025 placed the national average price of a 16-by-20-foot wood deck addition between roughly $17,000 and $18,300, while comparable composite decks averaged approximately $24,000 to $25,100. Costs in eastern Massachusetts are affected by labor rates, by material selection and by foundation requirements tied to frost depth.

Deck construction in eastern Massachusetts is concentrated between the spring thaw and late fall, since footings must extend below the frost line, a depth commonly taken as 48 inches in the region. Announcing the expanded coverage in midsummer allows Natick projects to be surveyed, permitted and framed before ground conditions restrict excavation.

Deck failures examined by building officials are frequently traced to ledger connections fastened with nails rather than bolts, to corroded hardware and to framing that has deteriorated beneath decking boards. The North American Deck and Railing Association designates May as Deck Safety Month and recommends annual inspection of structures more than a decade old.

Greene said the review process for older decks begins with the connection between the structure and the house, because that joint carries much of the load. “A deck that looks sound from the surface can still be attached to the rim joist with nails alone, and that condition is not visible until the boards come up,” said Greene.

Natick’s median household income was reported at $138,538 in recent American Community Survey estimates for the town. Deck structures built with pressure-treated framing in the 1990s are now reaching the point at which replacement rather than repair is commonly evaluated.
