Local nonprofit sponsors Sensory Safe Certification at W Social Club, expanding inclusive services for children in LaSalle County.
OTTAWA, IL, UNITED STATES, August 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — David’s Clubhouse, a local nonprofit dedicated to autism-inclusive indoor play and community support, is partnering with W Social Club to expand sensory-friendly services for families in LaSalle County.
This fall, David’s Clubhouse will sponsor one barber and one stylist at W Social Club in obtaining Sensory Safe Certification, specialized training designed to improve the haircut experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities, including autistic children and adults.
“Haircuts can be overwhelming for many individuals with sensory sensitivities,” said Vanessa Roddam, President of David’s Clubhouse. “By partnering with W Social Club, we’re taking a meaningful step toward making everyday experiences more accessible and comfortable for families in our community.”
As part of the partnership, David’s Clubhouse will also provide W Social Club with a Sensory Support Box containing supplies that can help create a calmer, more predictable environment during haircuts. The tools are intended to give stylists additional options for helping clients who may be sensitive to sound, touch, movement, or other aspects of the salon experience.

The partnership reflects David’s Clubhouse’s broader goal of extending inclusion beyond its own walls and helping local businesses become more accessible to families with differing needs. Revenue generated by the David’s Clubhouse indoor playground is reinvested into programs and initiatives that directly support families in the community. The sensory-certification sponsorship with W Social Club is the first of several planned efforts aimed at creating a more inclusive, understanding, and supportive LaSalle County.
David’s Clubhouse is an outreach of One River Zen founded by local Buddhist priests Michael Brunner and Vanessa Roddam. The indoor playground at 110 W. Jefferson St. in downtown Ottawa is open to all children and is designed as a welcoming place where kids of all abilities can play, explore, and spend time together. Families can find playground hours, programs, events, and additional information at davidsclubhouse.org.
W Social Club, located at 224 W. Main St. in Ottawa, is a local salon serving the community with hair and beauty services. Following completion of the sponsored training, its participating barber and stylist will be able to incorporate Sensory Safe practices into appointments for clients who may benefit from additional accommodations.
