A major advantage for package handling.
RIAZZINO, TICINO, SWITZERLAND, October 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — All types of packages, regardless of their size or shape, must be transported by post offices and express delivery services around the world. Some packages are wrapped in tape, others only with a string and a knot. Most are shipped today in cardboard boxes, which come in all sizes and qualities. Polybags and thick letters must also be transported. Sometimes they contain nothing more than a CD or a video case.
Avancon has developed a new ZPC belt conveyor system to transport all these different types of goods, because a belt conveyor can handle anything. Avancon already supplies an excellent ZPC roller conveyor system, but that system requires the goods being conveyed to have a flat bottom. Now, the same design was to be used for the new belt conveyor system as well.
Avancon’s engineers developed a new belt conveyor system that looks similar to the aluminum design of the existing ZPC roller conveyor system on the outside, but is constructed entirely differently on the inside. It is designed so that the ZPC roller conveyor zone is now a ZPC belt conveyor zone. Each zone has now become a short belt that is as long as the longest item to be transported plus 25 millimeters. It also incorporates the functions for pressure-free accumulation, using the same controls, light barrier, control boxes, and firmware based on the existing design of the ZPC roller conveyor. This also applies to the flat cables, which are pressed into the ribs of the aluminum profiles. This ensures that the cables always run parallel to one another. As a result, the control boxes with the blades underneath can be pressed into place at any location. The motors are the same axial-flux BLDC motors used in the ZPC roller conveyors, but in a dual-synchronous configuration.
The zone belt is a completely independent, fully functional, short conveyor belt. Can it be quickly and easily removed or replaced? Yes, like any other conveyor belt, it is pre-tensioned and centered. It’s straightforward.
Avancon had to develop a new design for the profile. By opening one side of the outer profile, you can completely replace a small zone conveyor with a new one, including the permanently mounted Axial-Flux BLDC flat motors. The zone belt has a very flat frame that is housed within the outer frame when the assembly is closed.
This short belt operates in a single zone. If it is damaged, it can be replaced immediately with a new belt. Once the outer profile is closed again and the motors are reconnected, the entire system continues to run. This is a major advantage, as downtime is limited to just a few minutes.
The old zone belt can be repaired, tested, and reused later if another zone belt needs to be replaced elsewhere. Installation is quick and easy.
A major advantage of the installation is that a central control cabinet and cable routing are no longer required. This is because the cables, controllers, and motors are already built into the frame structure for each zone, and the firmware is preloaded. ASi is used as the bus software, which can communicate via a gateway with higher-level PLCs or IT infrastructure and bus systems such as Profinet and others.
Another advantage is the energy savings during operation, which range from approximately 30% to 84%.
Avancon has patented the new design and the method for replacing a zone belt in most industrialized countries worldwide.
