As MS NOW is slated to introduce its first-ever direct-to-consumer offering tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 9, the organization will unveil an innovative experience for its Members to stay engaged and informed while giving them the tools to navigate today’s often overwhelming, nonstop news cycle.
The MS NOW Membership will be available for purchase in the App Store, on Google Play, and online at ms.now.
When MS NOW launched its We the People campaign last fall, it reaffirmed the organization’s journalistic mission and celebrated the many ways Americans participate in civic life. At the heart of that campaign was a simple idea: democracy is strongest when people remain informed, engaged, and connected to the world around them. But staying informed has never required more from people than it does today. Today’s headlines move faster than ever. The issues shaping politics don’t stop at politics; they influence relationships, families, workplaces, and communities.
“MS NOW’s We The People campaign celebrates the many ways that people participate in our democracy. Civic engagement begins with staying informed,” said Marcus Mabry, SVP of content strategy at MS NOW. “We also recognize that carrying that responsibility can feel overwhelming in today’s nonstop news environment. Our Membership aims to help audiences stay engaged, meaning not only delivering trusted journalism but also creating thoughtful tools that help them process it, reflect on it, and come back ready to engage again.”
Throughout the development of MS NOW’s inaugural direct-to-consumer product, research revealed that its audiences don’t want to disengage. Instead, they want to stay informed and are seeking tools to help them navigate the experience and make it more fulfilling and healthy.
“I spent nearly three decades covering the news, so I know firsthand that staying informed is part of being an engaged citizen,” said Dan Harris, one of the MS NOW Membership’s founding contributors, bestselling author of 10% Happier, host of the 10% Happier podcast, and former ABC News journalist. “I also know how easy it is to become overwhelmed by the constant flow of information. Mindfulness isn’t about caring less or tuning out. It’s about building the awareness and resilience that allow us to stay connected to what matters without getting swept away by it. That’s why I’m so excited to see MS NOW investing in this space and creating tools that help people stay informed, stay grounded, and keep showing up for the conversations, communities, and democracy that matter most.”
AN INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH CALM; INCLUDING CUSTOM GUIDED MEDITATIONS
MS NOW is creating an experience designed specifically for today’s nonstop news cycle. The organization’s partnership with Calm brings its expertise in meditation and mindfulness to the MS NOW community through an exclusive collection of guided meditations created specifically for Members.
The collection helps Members recenter after engaging with the news. Not so they disengage from it, but so they can return with renewed focus, energy, and intention.
After catching up on the day’s headlines and making their way through their curated news feed, MS NOW will offer an in-app destination woven directly into the Membership experience to reset and refuel; a built-in off-ramp from the scroll. There, Members will find exclusive Calm meditations designed to help them process the day’s events, regain perspective, and return to the conversation with renewed focus and intention.
A NEW ROSTER OF EXPERTS TO HELP MEMBERS NAVIGATE THE WAYS NEWS AND POLITICS SHAPE EVERYDAY LIFE
The stories dominating today’s headlines shape conversations around the dinner table, affect marriages and friendships, and influence how parents talk to their children. Recognizing that reality, MS NOW’s Membership is expanding beyond traditional news programming to introduce a new community of trusted experts whose work explores the many ways politics and headlines intersect with everyday life.
A roster of new contributors will create exclusive content spanning mindfulness, relationships, healthcare, caregiving, and parenting. Together, they bring thoughtful expertise to the conversations that continue long after the headlines fade.
This inaugural group of experts includes: Dan Harris, the bestselling author of 10% Happier, host of the 10% Happier podcast, and former ABC News journalist who has become one of the country’s leading voices on what has been coined “human flourishing” – covering everything from mindfulness to relationships to fitness; Nedra Glover Tawwab, a licensed therapist, relationship expert, and bestselling author known for helping millions build healthier relationships through communication and boundaries; Dr. Joel Bervell, the Peabody Award-winning physician and science communicator known as “The Medical Mythbuster,” whose work helps audiences better understand healthcare and combat misinformation; Richard Lui, MS NOW anchor and an award-winning journalist, filmmaker, author, care-economy technology founder, and nationally recognized caregiving advocate whose personal experience caring for both of his parents for more than a decade informs his work supporting caregivers; and Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart, a pediatric psychologist, parent coach, speaker, and author with more than 20 years of experience helping children, teenagers, and the adults raising them navigate the challenges of parenting in a rapidly changing world.
Members will have access to the first slate of original content created exclusively for the MS NOW Membership, featuring the contributors below. This initial lineup is just the beginning, with additional contributors, programming, and experiences to come.
