Dallas, Texas Aug 25, 2026 (Issuewire.com) Unified Law Group, PB LLC, recently changed its name to Chief Legal Office, PB LLC. The new name does more than update a logo. It defines the business the company has been building: the fractional Chief Legal Office.

Co-Founders Amy Natasha Osteen and Elizabeth Daane built a business that got harder to describe. For a while they called it a fractional General Counsel practice, but the label never quite fit. So, they stopped trying to fit their group into an old one.

For years, people would ask what Unified Law was, and my answer kept getting longer, said Osteen. Were not another fractional GC shop, and were not a traditional law firm. Were a fractional in-house legal department. At some point it became obvious that the name should just say that.

What Is a Fractional Chief Legal Office?

Every growing company hits an awkward in-between. It has outgrown founder-led legal triage and a handful of outside counsel relationships, but it does not yet need, and often cannot yet justify, a full-time General Counsel or a built-out in-house legal department.

Right now, companies in that spot take one of three paths.

They keep trying to do it themselves, relying on generic forms, AI tools, and outside lawyers as issues arise.

It hires lawyers who think like in-house counsel, because that is what they have always been, and who know the difference between answering a legal question and owning the legal function.

What Is Not Changing

Existing clients will keep working with their current attorneys and Client Success Teams. Chief Legal Office, PB LLC remains a public benefit company, and its commitment to expanding access to legal support for qualifying nonprofits and social enterprises continues. U.S. legal services will continue through affiliated law firm Outside CLO, PC.
