Former Bengals Tight End C.J. Uzomah Announces NFL Retirement

C.J. Uzomah, who played tight end for the Cincinnati Bengals and is remembered for catching quarterback Joe Burrow’s inaugural NFL touchdown pass, has announced his retirement from professional football. Uzomah’s decision marks the end of a 10-season career in the National Football League.

The significant play, Burrow’s first NFL touchdown, occurred in 2020 during a game against the Cleveland Browns. The touchdown was scored in Cleveland.

Uzomah spent the majority of his career with the Bengals, becoming a reliable target for the team. His tenure with Cincinnati included contributing to the team’s Super Bowl LVI appearance. Prior to his time with the Bengals, Uzomah played for the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

The announcement of his retirement follows a decade in the league, during which he established himself as a dependable player at the tight end position.
